Latkes

Try making your own Latkes for Chanukah, here's how...

Ingredients

  1. 4 large potatoes
  2. 1 medium onion
  3. 1 large egg
  4. 1 teaspoon salt
  5. 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  6. 1 tablespoon self raising flour
  7. vegetable oil for frying

1. Grate the potatoes and onion into a bowl. Transfer to a colander and squeeze mixture to get out as much liquid as you can.

2. In a large bowl mix together the egg, salt, pepper and flour . Add the grated potato and onion and mix well.

3. Heat the oil in a large frying pan.

4. Drop two tablespoons of the latke mixture into the hot oil and flatten with the back of a spoon to make a latke shape.

5. Fry over a medium heat turning occasionally, until golden brown.

6. Remove your latkes form the oil and drain them on paper kitchen towel.

7. Serve hot with sour cream and apple sauce.
